Now I'm annoyed... But it is almost 3 am here... Earlier I noticed that a post I was reviewing had a 2 link Google banner at the bottom of the post. I'd assumed the poster had found some way to use individual Google ads... I noticed someone had even asked how the ads were happening... As I reviewed more posts, I noticed that the ad "floated" to the last post on that topic.
The Good News is that in the topics that this appears in, the Google ad at the top is reduced to 1 thin line. Going to bed now to sleep on just how annoying this is...

It's 3 pm my time and I think it is annoying too... The Gooogle-bots observe how amused we are by bsnner signatures and wish to assimilate US. Is Google becoming the new borg?

| Right this second, the ad is back on top... But I observed what you two were talking about earlier... Yeah, the Google banners within posts could be annoying... The idea that Google-bots can read and know when we are saying they are annoying does not give as much comfort as one might think... |

Maybe MajorMic listens to Coast to Coast too much...  Don't you ever wonder what all the implications of Google information collection is about? Is it really just disinterested random picking up of words in a post to insert an ad?

By and large outages should only last a few minutes and only effect forums using portal code, use of the control panel, and last but hardly least for a minute or two forums may not be able to be posted to.
The changes involved are:
1) New measure to stop spambots posting.
2) New measure to stop spambots registering.
3) New "caching" portal component system. This will speed up the portal (not that is is slow) allowing the development of new components which would effect speed.
4) New Birthday accouncement portal component.
5) phpbb3 ready forum control panel and creation system.
6) For internal use a much better email/newsletter management system. |
