Sirius Tips for calling the Stern ShowTips for calling the Stern Show from the Sirius website, by Erica Phillips
1. Have something compelling to say:
For example….something
- Integral to a topic Howard is talking about RIGHT NOW.
- Relevant to a guest in the studio RIGHT NOW.
- Related to a topic Howard has been regularly discussing.
- Juicy about a celebrity.
- Funny! 2. Be prepared to wait on hold, and block out some time.
3. Use a LAND LINE – no cell phones, and no cordless phones.
4. TURN DOWN YOUR RADIO! Listen through the phone.
5. Give Will Murray and the other phone screeners some respect. Say hello, quickly state your point, and don’t waste their time.
6. Stay with your phone – Howard goes to callers very quickly. If you use a speaker phone and are in another room when he tries to take your call, you will lose out.
7. If Howard goes off on a tangent, hang low and be patient, you don’t always have to contribute.
8. While you’re on, if you want to play something for Howard over the air through the phone; you still need to hear Howard talking to you. So have your song, bit, or audio clip READY on an IPod or MP3 player. Put one of the headphone ear buds against the mouthpiece on your phone handset, and keep the phone earpiece on your ear.
9. While Howard usually will thank you for calling and say goodbye, sometimes the show moves on. Don’t be offended if you get hung-up-on – as a caller, you sort of know when you’re done.
10. *BONUS TIP* Segment Producer Jason Kaplan says if you send gifts to Segment Producer/Screener Will Murray, or speak nicely about him, you’ll get on quicker.
