Edit: "Blow Up the Moon"; "Block the Sun"

The Fake Arnold call from back in April/May 2005 when he wants to "blow up the moon" was one of the great impersonations of the Stern show. The call took place on 4/18/05 (the day before Howard's vacation). It was picked up by news outlets who were listening to the show/watching web chatter and thought it was real. The outlets that covered it without checking wound up with egg on their faces.

I remember that. Quite a few people on the west coast were upset about that, particularly women who voted for Arnold. Of course he denied it and the prank was exposed, but often the correction gets less attention than the initial allegation.

It was amazing the exposure that story got.. and that the news media did not verify it before spreading it. Of course when you think of the wedding rumors, it seems that Howard almost "sets up" these "rumors" to explode while he's on vacation. Still, Station Mgr. Tom C. was very "hands-on" with the show at K-Rock. Had the media contacted him, he probably could have gotten an answer and/or straightened them out before they went on-air/to print.

I didn't think about downloading and re-uploading somewhere that would give me a thumbnail. That would make an interesting avatar (reduced t0 80x80 or 100x100, of course.

Yeah it's really funny to see how the media doesn't check out the facts before running with a story. Or maybe someone in a big media room has a bug up his ass about The Schwartz.

Here's hoping now that Howard/Sirius are getting access to material from CBS, that we may someday hear that call again. Meanwhile, PM if you missed it.

Arnold was on yesterday. It was a lot more obvious that it was fake. I guess they did not want a repeat of the "Blow Up The Moon" saga from 2005. Here's MarksFriggin's recap...

After the break we heard a couple of prank calls that Cabbie and Sal made. Howard had (Fake) Arnold Schwarzenegger on the phone after that. Howard spoke to Arnold about how he's thinking of banning all cell phones in California. He was also saying that he wants to outline some new initiatives that he has in the works. Arnold also said that he wants to ban iPods because they're too much of a distraction. He said he would also like to build unisex bathrooms in all government buildings. He said it costs the states too much money to have both bathrooms.

Howard asked Arnold if he has been following the Mel Gibson stuff lately. Arnold said that he has been following it and he thinks Mel is a great guy. He said he's gotten a bunch of shit himself by hanging out with the president of Austria so he knows what Mel is going through. He said they joke around during Thanksgiving time. When they put the turkey into the oven, Arnold's father says it's time to put the Jew into the gas chamber. He said it's all in good fun.

Arnold said that he was drinking this morning so that's why he's all over the place with this stuff. He was also saying that he's looking for one of those gossip merged names like Brangelina. He said he would like to be known as Schivenegger. He had a few others that he would like to use for celebrities.

Arnold told Howard that he was looking to destroy the moon a few months back and that may be coming to fruition in the near future. He said that they want to build a giant shield over all of California to block out the sun because the sun does cause a lot of deaths. He said he doesn't know all of the technical aspects of the whole thing, he just knows it will work. Howard wrapped up with him a short time later and let him go.

At least they made a point of making it sound fake this time. The real Arnold took some heat on the "Blow Up the Moon" thing last year. "Fake" Arnold was all over the place this time: phonecams, iPods, unisex potties, the Moon, blocking the Sun... He threw in Mexicans joining the US military to gain citizenship to try to make it sound real - GWB already does that. Thanks for the soundbyte... It was amusing.

"Arnold's" calls are always great. That guy has Arnold's voice down cold. This call literally threw in "everything but the kitchen sink" as far as "issues," though. If Arnold runs/re-runs for public service during Howard's tenure at Sirius, they should make some "Arnold" political "ads" and run them during extended breaks.
