Miserable Men has new timeslot/forum...Starting next week, Miserable Men will be on Sirius Ch. 101 (one of the Stern channels) from Midnight to 3am Eastern (Tues. nights into Wed.am). They have launched their own forum at http://www.miserablemen.net and have sections for suggesting guests and topics. This might be an opportunity to reach some different people.
PS: When asked for a referrer on the forum form, put TerryGale.
I submitted several men's rights names to the Miserable Men "guest brainstorming forum" there. Who knows who will be contacted. http://www.miserablemen.net/showthread.php?t=175
Update on how to get on the show.. Edited for spelling, language, and to eliminate foreign smileys.. so I guess paraphrase would be better...
| MM Co-host Reverend Bob Levy wrote: | Miserable Men starts Tues., May 9th at Midnight EDT time and will run every Tuesday at that time. We are all set now and the commercials will run this week and next ...so if you wanna call into the the show email us at mizzmenshow@yahoo.com Include a name and number - and give us some info on your problem (topic) and we will contact you...
We will have about 3 guests each week ..song parodies.. taped interviews.. a news story and a lot of calls. We promise you all a great radio show, so get ready...
We wanna hear the women's side too, so don't be scared ladies... | Actually ladies, I'd strongly recommend you find a way to listen to a whole show before calling. The show is uncensored and these guys hold little sacred.
If anyone would like me to refer them as a potential future phone-in guest of Miserable Men to promote a men's group or a book, PM me. The radio mic links to a short clip of a phone interview from April's show...

Of course, the show is good and deserves the time slot

I'm hoping mras will join their forum and lurk, submitting some "real" mra potential call-in guests. Stern fans will most likely try to sway the show towards strictly entertainment. I hope MM can stay unique and not just be another "Stern clone redundancy" (ala Bubba).

Do you really think Bubba is a "Stern clone redundancy"?

Especially the day last week when Bubba was in town and Howard insisted an upcoming segment of "shock the puss" be moved to Stern's show. Howard was appropriating Bubba's bit. Hopefully, Bubba has gone or will be going back to Florida soon. The shows need to maintain some boundaries I think. I'm not into Bubba's extremes or NASCAR though, and don't bother seeking out the "replay" unless alerted to something in the forums.

Yeah, I thought this was a little odd, Howard "appropriating" Bubba's signature bit. When Bubba was on with Mattie Yokum (or however it's spelled) it was actually making NASCAR sound cool. Of course, Howard is the trailblazer in all of this.

Well, I did my best to call in... Howard said something the other day that the system counts call attempts for the shows as an indicator of "interest." The lines stayed busy...

They had plenty of callers, but with it being so late - a more focused start would have been better. Maybe start with a really strong guest/topic call - then discuss. Next hour - another really strong guest/topic - discuss. Third hour - next guest/topic - discuss -- or wrap-up from the first two hours. In the short shows, they were forced to start focused.
Others have suggested including one (serious) men's rights topic per show - the sort of interview that could be leaked on other boards - maybe draw some different people in. Somehow, I doubt the male porn star interview will be leaked to other boards.

I was disappointed that "David" was dropped in favor of taking more calls. I'm still interested in learning about any websites that trackback to David's book. (David was the phone interview from April's show.)
The 5/9-5/10 show seemed more like "Loveline" than men's rights. I'm not sure if that's neccessarily a bad thing. That would be interesting to hear listener feedback on and even feedback from the 3 hosts.
Kevin (the MI divorce atty.) was the strongest phone interview concerning men's rights. He claimed affiliation with American Divorce Association for Men (ADAM) and http://www.mens-divorce.com/
The show should plug the Miserable Men board more. Maybe do a pre-recorded "break" plug for the phone, e-mail, and the board to run instead of break "muzac." A couple of people who are able to listen "real-time" could possibly start a "live" discussion thread at the MM board to build traffic for themselves instead of having all discussion take place at SFN.

Jeez, I wish Howard would just leave them in a schedule pattern 2 or more times in a row, so that people can tell their friends to tune in.

Bob Levy picture from MM board (...from the basement of his ex-wife's house?)...
Apparently, now they're going to try an every other Monday 7pm schedule - supposedly with a weekend replay. If it started Mon. May 22nd, that would be 5/22, 6/5, and 6/19. I just wish Howard would give them a slot and let it stabilize, so that listeners can be added through word of mouth. Even when they have a great show, people don't know when to tune back or tell others to tune-in...
Updates here..

According to what I've seen at MM and SFN, the 6/5 show will be similar to the 5/22 show (discussion of men's worst sexual experiences - please don't share here). I am beginning to wonder about the shows direction.
Thanks in advance...

From what I heard of the show, Shuli kept things flowing. The topic of women instigating "let's you two fight" situations was very mra. It takes two, sometimes more people for violence. Women are very good at "instigating."

There was one caller talking about being turned in for child support issues because he was hospitalized and fell behind... That was probably the only clip I'd put in the public forum. Here's a call from "Clint" re-paternity trickery from the 7/3/06 show...
Did Clint get good advice?? What advice would you have given "Clint?" Your comments re the MM show are always welcome here. Miserable Men can be e-mailed through mizzmenshow@yahoo.com Maybe write the Stern show about the MM "Clint" call and any better advice you might have offerred Clint.. sternshow@howardstern.com The call started about 23 minutes into the show. Maybe Howard will talk about Miserable Men when he gets back from vacation.
Joey Boots made an appearance about 26 minutes into the show and was there for the duration. People who want Joey's participation might as well go "behind the curtain."

Can someone summarize what the show was about tonight? I missed it. We had to go with "her" parents to a 4th of July concert.
|
MiserableMan
|
You'd fit right in Rush! First off was being forced to go to 'her' parties; then the Clint call; then Joey and the 'single vs relationship;' then the 'sleaze' (most embarrassing sex calls). In an hour, it's hard to give things the attention or even consider being serious.
|
G-man Fan
|
Hopefully, people don't call in to comedic radio shows expecting sincere advice, because he sure wasn't getting any there. I think "Clint" got the money angle - He said something like "they're (her family) all on welfare; I'm a trucker; they see potential $800/month income" (paraphrased). I hope that fellow seeks legal advice and insists on paternity testing. I don't have an upside-down flag smiley, but this child support - welfare thing has it's downside. That show is a tad sleazy for my taste. Wish they'd stayed more serious.
Think about the troops while you enjoy your 4th...

Miserable Men is supposed to be on tonight at it's normal 7pm, but Reverend Bob was posting on SFN and MiserableMen.net that it might be their last show. Apparently, from what I can understand, Ferrall is on vacation and his time slots were being divyied out among the other shows and a couple of new pilots. MM did not get extra time they'd asked for and Debbie Schlussel was given Ferrall's entire Monday slot of 8-11pm . The MM are upset and threatening to end the show after tonight.
|
MiserableMan
|
That would be sad news indeed if they quit. It is a shame that they did not get the additional time they asked for, but they did not get "bumped.' They have their regular 'every other Monday" night schedule. Chances are, Debbie is a 'one-time' gig. Three hour political shows can be tough to pull off. I can't listen to Tammy Bruce at all and take Laura I. in very short spurts. It's a voice thing.
|
Mic Man
|
Debbie Schlussel got 4 hours, 8-12 midnight. I do wish Howard had allotted Miserable Men an extra hour or two, leaving Debbie with a two or three hour show. Then the Miserable Men wouldn't be so upset. I don't think this is something Bob and the others need to quit over, though.
