Howard Stern Film Festival Links

This link has a couple of previews to films supposedly being developed for the Howard Stern Film Festival.. . But doesn't that spoil the surprise to have them widely available on the net before the big day? Of course, I'm sure Howard's staff is previewing all the entries... http://sternlove.bravehost.com/

Being on dial-up I was frustrated by YouTube videos - until I realized the trick is to push play to start the loading process, then hit pause (the video will continue to load - you'll just be spared that jerky buffering process). Open other windows and surf elsewhere for about an hour - then come back and watch your video. Guess there's nothing wrong with "pre-viewing" the videos people are submitting to the HS Film Festival if the owners of the clips are circulating them. Most of us will never make it to NYC for this. A lot of places don't have OnDemand/InDemand.

I remember when they did the "Restless, Restless" song parody contest, a lot got eliminated before the contest.

Yeah the two vids on there may never even make it to air...

Check out some of the entries online at YouTube.com For slow connections: hit play, then pause and go to another window for awhile until it loads... There might be other stuff here if you knew where to look...

How to keep this description clean enough for the General Forum..?
Robin had a child after an orgy with Howard and Artie. When the child grew-up, he went to meet the shrink.

Ham Radio

I really enjoyed the full version of Radio Play and hope everyone gets to see it full on HSTVOD. But G.L. of SFN came up with a "low budget" version - a .jpg to look at while listening to an .mp3. I thought that was a really great idea - so here it is... The .jpg is already at a public hosting site, so just use quote and grab the thumbnail and url coding...

Click the 1st mic for the 401KB .mp3 clip or the 2nd mic for a better surprise...

Reel Stern, Pint-Size Howard Takes Film Prize
By Don Kaplan, New York Post

May 1, 2006 -- LAST week three little kids ac complished something the FCC and CBS could never do - they made Howard Stern cry. Well maybe he was just a bit misty-eyed.

"They got me with the part where my father bangs on the door in the middle of the show - it really got to me," Stern told The Post of "Radio Play," the winning entry of his first Howard Stern Film Festival.

The five-minute film, directed by "Stern Show" listener Scott Masterson, was a touching fantasy about Stern and his sidekicks, Robin Quivers and Fred Norris, meeting as kids over ham radios and doing an early version of their show. The fun ends when Stern's father pounds on the door to young Howard's room and tells him to go to bed.

It was the best of around 2,000 short films (all related to his show) that Stern fans submitted to the festival, for which the winner took home a $15,000 cash prize and another $15,000 worth of film equipment.

"I am always astounded by the level of creativity in the audience," Stern says after the show, seated in a quiet lounge underneath the Hudson theater while clutching a small bottle of what appears to be liquid hand sanitizer. "If you ask the audience for anything, they come back at you with incredible stuff," he says.

For hours, Stern's festival - a three-ring circus attended by about 600 fans - had unreeled upstairs, while crowds behind police barriers clogged traffic on 44th Street, snapping pictures of celebrity guests and Stern Show staffers.

The film festival, Stern says, was initially cooked up as a goof to promote his new pay-per-view channel that offers viewers uncensored, R-rated video from his radio program and other goodies. Films made by the festival's nine finalists are the latest edition to the lineup.

"The television channel has actually been a huge success for us because the audience is responding in a way they never could before," he says. "But this takes it to a whole new level because the fans are now contributing. What I'm hoping for out of all of this is that this guy who won - his film will be viewed by people in the media and the [film] industry, and maybe it'll turn into something for him."

Helping an aspiring filmmaker land a big break is a Stern trait most casual listeners are less familiar with than his show's zany, sexually charged antics and the various public battles he's waged with radio industry executives and competing deejays.

His latest war is with his old bosses at CBS, who slapped him with a megabucks lawsuit in February and last week fired his replacement, rocker David Lee Roth, handing over his old timeslot to archrivals Opie & Anthony.

Yet at Sirius, where nearly 4 million listeners have followed Stern to the pay-radio service, he seems to have shifted away from his usual thirst for revenge and adopted a somewhat more Zen attitude.

"I wish them well," he says of O&A. "I cannot imagine what it would be like to get back into that studio, working for those guys [at CBS] with all of their 22 minutes of commercials and the headaches with the FCC and having people edit me," he says.

"Honestly, I've never been more turned on than I am now," he says. "In a strange way, I've even sort of let go of the whole CBS lawsuit and terrestrial radio. It seems so foreign to me now, I don't even know how I existed. I feel, in a way, like an elder statesman. I conquered everything I wanted to in that medium and I saw myself going backwards - I was really dead in the water creatively, and now I'm completely revived."
