I've also heard complaints from college kids who can't get reception in their dorms. It seems you need an antenna or something to get a decent reception.
Seems this whole satellite thing isn't as a smooth as it's being billed. Glad I didn't throw out my shortwave. There are even computer programs out now that act as shortwave recievers that give you CD quality reception.

SIRIUS put its' constellation of three satellites in a high elliptical orbit, which is also called a Molniya. This type of orbit was developed by the Russians to keep their spy satellites over us as long as possible. The track looks like an elongated figure eight on the ground. As a result, the altitude of the satellites or (distance above the earth), varies at different times in the orbit. Any signal strength problems could be related to sun spot activity which has been high the past few weeks. Sirius has a fourth satellite in storage, but has plans to launch a more powerful satellite which should improve signal reception for most in North America. A depiction of the Molniya orbit and the Sirius Satellites is attached below. Click the thumbnail to see the full orbit...

the antenna is a "line of sight" deal.
I must say my Sirius has worked flawlessly for months. It's using the Home antenna which I've got just outside of my bathroom window.
My brother has used his Starmate at home and in his car and also has had no problems. True, I've been in his car when we go under a bridge or something and the signal gets "lost" for a second or so, but one has to expect that.
