SternFanNetwork posters are busy locating Sirius billboards promoting Stern's 1-9-06 debut at Sirius.
| Quote: | Howard Stern Scavenger Hunt (post #1)
Sirius launched a collection of Howard Stern billboards this month. Can ya find em? We'd love to see photos of the new advertising. I've heard through the grapevine that there are several different ones throughout New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, and Cleveland. If you are in one of those markets, find one and let us know where (city/street name - and/or snap a pic).
Billboard Sightings! (post #2)
Shuli started a thread in the H100 Forum regarding new billboards that have gone up in the past week. If you're in
New York
Chicago*
Los Angeles
San Francisco
Philadelphia*
Las Vegas*
Cleveland
*Marks cities where some have been found...
There are 17 reportedly up in LA & the surrounding areas:
4 up in San Francisco
5 in Chicago
1 in Vegas
6 in Philly
Cleveland has 4-7 up now |
Chicago SFN fans have sighted 2 different ones, so far...
Here's one found in Chicago (off i-290 westbound at the 1st ave. exit)! The KFC bucket gets in the way, but you get the point. Also, note that they're Clear Channel billboards. "Let Freedom ring and let it be rung by a stripper..."
On January 9, the gloves are coming off.. and maybe some tops...

By the way, thanks all Stern fans who submitted pictures to SternFanNetwork. I can't post a direct SFN link in most places I am reposting this due to adult content TOS, but per Mutt at SFN - the first to post a previously unposted location in the official stickied "Scavenger hunt" thread at SFN's "General Chat" gets a prize from Mutt. Photobucket and ImageVenue photos can be hot-linked there. TinyPic and ImageShack banned SFN's domain.

Here is the billboard in Las Vegas.
(Located on Paradise Rd, just before the airport.)

Priest Demands Removal Of Offensive (Stern) Billboard
Billboard's Take On MLK Phrase 'Disrespectful'
POSTED: 4:57 pm CST December 22, 2005
UPDATED: 6:18 pm CST December 22, 2005
CHICAGO -- Billboards are designed to catch your eye, but there's a billboard on the South Side that's catching heat from neighborhood activists.
The billboard promotes the upcoming Howard Stern Show on Sirius satellite radio and is located at 86th Street and Lafayette Avenue.
It comes with a provocative message: "Let freedom ring and let it be rung by a stripper."
The Rev. Michael Pfleger, of St. Sabina Church, is demanding that the billboard be taken down.
He says to take a phrase made popular by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and trivialize it is disrespectful and unacceptable.
"As we prepare to celebrate Dr. King's birthday, we will not tolerate this kind of disrespect ... we should not have to tolerate it in our communities," Pfleger said. |

MLK, Jr., did not 'invent' "Let Freedom Ring!" He was also known to love the company of beautiful women -- and there's nothing wrong with that.
The vast majority without an agenda think of this when they hear or read "Let freedom ring.." My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the Pilgrims' pride,
From every mountainside
Let freedom ring.
Our fathers' God, to Thee
Author of liberty
To thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright
With freedom's holy light;
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King! _________________ Viking Cats endless loop |

Who is Rev. Michael Pfleger?
In 1981, Father Pfleger became the proud adoptive father of an eight-year-old son, Lamar. In 1992, he also became the adoptive father of Beronti, who is presently a student at University of Central Florida. In 1997, he became a foster father to Jarvis Franklin, who was tragically killed as a result of gang crossfire, May 30,1998.
Since 1968, Father Pfleger has lived and ministered in the African-American community on both the west and south sides of Chicago. He spent two summers working in a Native American community in Oklahoma, and did his seminary internship as a Chaplin at Cook County Jail and at Precious Blood Catholic Church, both in Chicago.
This priest who ministers boys rather than adult women is bringing Martin Luther King, Jr., into the fray? |

OK, you all.. behave... Nothing wrong with men mentoring orphaned boys... Not all priests are pedophiles...
I had questions about Howard's venture into black power symbolism too, but am over it. If the church takes this to court, it will take months. Billboards rent in 6 month timeblocks... Chances are the billboard will change when the rental period is up. Chances are in 6 months Sirius will figure out that they've gotten whatever % of Stern's listenership they're going to get. If it works, it works - if not they'll invest their ad $ elsewhere...

The person who posted this to SFN blocked the license plate. The person claims to be in Vegas. Hard to tell if that is Vegas... |

| Well, Major Mic.. I heard on Howard 100 news that the Chicago minster and his congregation won. They got both Clear Channel and Viacom to agree to change their billboards (apparently each owned a billboard with that slogan). Heck, the news spoke to someone from the local/state government?? The Chicago folks were trying to make it all about blacks and Dr. King - but "Let freedom ring" was in the song long before Dr. King said it. |
