Stern and his vacation bombshells...
Howard Stern is a master at having rumorous time bombs "explode" during his "vacations." Since he's not on air daily to "debunk" them, they get more life than they might otherwise get. Right now, there's a rumor concerning whether or not Stern got remarried.
My favorite satirical rumor that got much farther than anyone could have envisioned was the "Blow up the moon" bit. Just prior to his late April 2005 vacation, there was an "phone interview" Howard did with a Gov. Schwarzenegger impersonator about "blowing up the moon." Howard has a guy that sounds exactly (and i mean exactly) like Arnold who calls in sometimes. Howard said it would be cool to blow up the moon and "Arnold" called in to agree. Arnold said it would keep women from getting moody and the coast lines would be much safer.
Some British online newspaper ran with the story thinking it was true, and apparently Joe Scarborough fell for it too, though Howard wasn't exactly trying to fool people, it was clearly fake. But all of the MSM "coverage" happened after Howard's vacation started. Feminists were all upset. Scarborough wound up apologizing on-air.
Turns out the bit may not have been completely original. "Blow up the Moon" was a sketch on the HBO Sketch comedy series MR.Show in 1997. Possibly, someone was "inspired" by this when taping "Arnold's 'prank' call to Howard." Stern wound up getting several days use out of the fall-out upon his return.

* ''Governor Schwarzenegger'' Bit Causes Controversy. 05/02/05
| Quote: | Howard mentioned that they had ''Governor Schwarzenegger'' on the show before they went on vacation and there was some fall out because of it. Howard said that he hates to say it, but that wasn't really Arnold Schwarzenegger. Howard read some articles that came out after the interview because people thought it was really Arnold on the phone that day. Howard read some of this article that came out after that interview. They covered the article on Hollywood.com and some other sites. Howard said these were legitimate articles and they weren't from The Onion or anything like that. Howard said there were even some news reports on TV about the interview...
Gary came in and told Howard that they had the audio of ''Governor Schwarzenegger'' ready to play from the E! guys. Howard let that play so everyone could hear what the controversy was all about. The phony Governor was agreeing with Howard about getting rid of the moon so they could do away with tides and with woman's menstrual cycles. |
* Phony Schwarzenegger Controversy Discussed. 05/04/05
| Quote: | | Howard got his hands on a tape from MSNBC from The Scarborough Report where they reported on the Arnold Schwarzenegger bit they did a couple of weeks back. They reported that the real Arnold had talked about some controversial stuff on Howard's show, not knowing that it was all a goof. ''Arnold'' was an impersonator. They quoted the guy as if it was a real interview. Howard thought it was funny that this news program didn't check it's sources. The reporter was quoting a London newspaper and they didn't check their sources either. Artie thought he found out why his approval numbers are dropping and thought that it was because of the boarder closings he's talked about. Howard told Artie that it's just that it's Arnold Schwarzenegger that his numbers are dropping. The two of them goofed on Arnold for a minute and talked about how he can't even pronounce the name of the state he's governor in. Artie said that maybe the Californians were too fast in picking Arnold over the guy from ''Diff'rent Strokes.'' Howard replayed the bit they did with the phony Schwarzenegger so they could fool some more people. After playing the bit Howard said that he found it funny that ''Schwarzenegger'' wanted to get his help on figuring out a way to destroy the moon. Howard replayed The Scarborough Report clip that he played just a few minutes before. He went on to say that they should try to get their phony Schwarzenegger elected governor out there in California so they really can try and destroy the moon. |
* 05/06/05. 8:00am
| Quote: | | Howard read an article about how the fake Arnold Schwarzenegger fooled Joe Scarborough on The Scarborough Report. Joe went off on the real Arnold after reading an article about the comments that the impersonator made on Howard's show. They thought it was the real Arnold making comments about getting rid of the moon to get rid of the tides and women's menstrual cycles. Howard said they're very proud of that whole thing. |
ROFLMAO! Don't believe every David Letterman soundbyte you hear on the Stern show either. They are friends, Howard does appear on Letterman from time to time, but Howard's staff parodies Dave a lot too.
PM me if you want more on this... |

Model skips bathing suit calendar for fur
NEW YORK, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Howard Stern's girlfriend, Beth Ostrosky, has eschewed her annual swimsuit calendar for fur -- a 2006 fundraising calendar to help homeless animals.
Ostrosky, 33, appears with a variety of cuddly critters in the calendar for North Shore Animal League, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.
The calendar is $12.95 via www.nsalamerica.org, with all its proceeds going to the league's Hurricane Gulf Coast Animal Rescue Fund.
Of course, Ostrosky couldn't plug the calendar without being asked if Santa Stern left an engagement ring in her stocking.
"Well, Howard ... is going to address that on his show," she said. "But things are going just lovely on my end."
Stern's new show debuts on Sirius Satellite Radio Jan. 9. |

Howard and Beth were on Entertainment Tonight Thursday. They are still stringing it along... Just more hype for Jan. 9th (not that there's anything wrong with that).
