Enjoy.. Mutt's Math 101 @ SFN U
| Mutt wrote: | I'm adding some answers to common complaints / questions.
You've all heard the complainers calling into the show and posting here at SFN. I'm paying $12.95 a month, Howard is making $500 million, and he's taking off Fridays, WAHHH!!! Howard lied, WAAAAHH!! I'm returning my radio, WA WA WAAAAHH!!! I'm sick and tired of hearing the anti-Howard smear campaign so lets dispel the bullshit now.
- Howard taking Off Fridays
- Howard's Salary
- Howard lied about what Sirius would cost.
Howard taking Off Fridays
There is constant bitching about Howard taking Fridays off and having 10 weeks of vacation. Though it might appear that you'll be getting 20% less Howard Stern, it's just not so. You actually get 20% more.
First it's not fridays off plus more vactaion. Howard used to have 8 five day weeks off and now he has 10 four day weeks off. No matter how you look at it, it's 40 days. if you want to bitch about Fridays, at least accept it's the same amount of vacation.
Also, to everyone that says Howard hid this from us, it's not true. We've all known for a year. When the $500 million 5 year deal hit the papers they also reported about the 4 day week and the 10 weeks of vacation. If you knew about the $500 mill, you knew about the new schedule. It was mentioned on air several times. If you say you didn't know, you are a liar.
Old Howard
- 6-10:30AM with a five or six 15-20 minute commercial breaks.
- thats 4.5 hrs - 100 minutes or 2.8 hrs live each day
- which works out to 14 hrs live per week
- Howard used to work 44 weeks a year which works out to 623 hrs of Howard a year
New Howard
- 6-11AM with a five 6 minute commercial breaks
- thats 5 hrs - 30 minutes or 4.5 hrs live each day
- which works out to 18 hrs live per week
- Howard will be working 42 weeks a year which works out to 756 hrs a year
So for everyone who can't understand this
4 days of Sirius Howard Stern = 6 days of KROCK Howard Stern!!
by the end of the year even with his extra 2 weeks off well have an additional 133 hrs of Howard. Thats 21% more Stern!!!!! it's not less anything. You will hear Howard live more than ever before.
We didn't even start talking about all the additional Howard that we get now. The After Show, the Friday show, the news, the intern show, the super fan show. it's more Stern than you could ever want.
Also, besides these normal show hours, there will surely be additional shows like the New Years Eve special.
Now STFU!!!
---------------------------------------------
Howard's Salary
We hear everyone say that Howard makes $500 million. His budget for 3 radio stations is $100 million a year for 5 years. Everyone of his employees gets paid out of that $100 million. Thats the entire Howard Stern Show crew, the H100 News Team, Bubba the Love Sponge, Danny Boneduce, and everyone else on air or behind the scenes for H100, H101, & H102. I'm sure there's plenty left over for him, but when it's all said and done I wouldn't be surprised if it's less than he was making at KROCK. You can be sure that Robin, Fred, Artie, & Gary take a big chunk out of that $100 mill.
----------------------------------------------
Howard lied about what Sirius would cost.
I'm tired of seeing lot of bad math claiming that after you take all of Howard's days off the show costs $2 a day or some shit so here's the real deal. 1 year of Sirius is $142.45 or 39 cents a day.
if you are only buying Sirius for live Howard and don't want to count all of the spinoff shows, replays, or the 100 other channels of programing, you are paying 19 cents an hour for Live Stern. or 85 cents for each day Howard is live. This takes into consideration all of Howards days off including fridays, vacations, and holidays.
---------------------------------------------
Please add anything else that we need.
As for my Howard Stern math, any help fine tuning the number of commercial breaks and how long they are at both KROCK and on Sirius would be appreciated. I don't want to leave any room for discrepancies |

This week's lecture from Professor Mutt... I wasn't aware of the online channel during the Fall 2005, but I remember the connectivity horrors of Howard's own forum during Fall 2004. That thing ate so much bandwidth, they had to cut every single forum feature that makes a larger forum useful.
| Mutt wrote: | | Arthur wrote: | | One question Mutt: What about the online stream? I don't know if its been brought up since everyone knows you cant get Sirius reception inside a building, so I am shit out of luck for now. Howard said multiple times about Sirius having online stream when he was still on K-rock, but conveniently didn't mention that his channels were not going to be available (or at least not available on 1-9-06). This is the only time I feel Howard has dicked his fans. I think it is primarily a ploy to get people to buy receivers by forcing their hands, but hopefully the pressure from fans will bring online stream sooner rather than later. Besides, if anyone was planning on purchasing a Sirius subscription and only using it online, they would quickly change their mind once they see all Sirius has to offer. | Just for you I updated my first post about the online stream. good suggestion
-------------------------------
Online Streaming
Right now it's not possible. The current online stream is meant as a sample of what Sirius offers and not as a real listening alternative. The setup they use simply can not handle streaming to all of us. You may not be aware but from the time H100 went on the air to the time Howard said his first words on Sirius, H100 was secretly being streamed online by Sirius under another channel. Even without letting people know it was there people found it and listened. A show as small as The Super Fan Roundtable drew enough listeners to kill the system. The sound would dropout and you'd miss chunks of the conversation. You can only imagine how bad it would be if it was Howard on air.
Howard announced that Sirius has hired additional people to work on rebuilding the streaming setup in an effort to make Howard available. He said they won't even consider streaming it until they are sure that it will be perfect and without dropouts. There is no promise that it will ever be streamed, but this was the first real sign that they are trying to make it happen.
----------------------------------
While I was at it I updated the post about Fridays
----------------------------------
UPDATE: Howard announced that he will not be taking off every Friday. He will sometimes come in & do the show when he doesn't have meetings scheduled. There is no word on how offen he'll do a Friday.
----------------------------------
As for who gets the advertising dollars, I don't know - but what does this have to do with you or whether or not you are happy with the new show? |

Mutt calls Howard and they discuss the type of SFN threads Howard finds 'disturbing.' _________________ "We grow too soon old and too late smart..." quoted by Michael Savage... God Bless America CAN be a sincere prayer... God relieve me of my obsessions to always be right and to SHARE...

| jb wrote: | | Does mutt "try" to be a jerkoff or does it just come naturally? | The things that SFN does well: photo gallery*, access to frequent guests, callers, and even show staff happen because Mutt is willing to bite the bullet and keep the lid on other things (illegal filesharing, bashing). Other smaller forums have more latitude to the extent that they sacrifice having the staff make their visits known.
At SFN's current size, it has become a business vs a hobby. With the amount of attachments being hosted, it has to be "self-supporting."

| jb hasn't posted in a long time. You're probably going to have to PM him that question. I reread the thread to see if I could help, but have decided I really can't say anything helpful. |
