|
|
Shock jock Howard Stern claimed that his former employer CBS Corp. is "bullying" him and threatening to sue him for financial damages.
Speaking at a hastily arranged news conference in New York Tuesday, Stern said CBS accused him of reaching a "secret agreement" with his new employer, Sirius Satellite Radio Inc., even though he disclosed it to CBS executives and discussed his intentions to move to Sirius on the air.
Stern also disputed CBS's claim that he caused them financial damages by discussing satellite radio on the air, saying it was a legitimate story about the media and helped lead to high ratings for his show and sold-out advertising time.
Stern and his lawyers indicated that no lawsuit had been filed yet.
CBS declined to make any comment.
Stern held the news conference after The New York Post's widely read gossip column Page Six published an item Tuesday saying CBS was on the verge of filing a lawsuit against Stern.
Stern moved his popular morning show to satellite radio last month after years of railing against decency restrictions imposed on terrestrial radio by the Federal Communications Commission.
CBS's radio division, CBS Radio, had formerly been known as Infinity Broadcasting. CBS Corp. split from Viacom Inc. at the beginning of the year.

Ya gotta think, is Stern really this smart? Is this his royal plan unfolding as designed? CBS HAS sued Stern (and SIRIUS):

By Charles Duhigg and Meg James, Times Staff Writers March 1, 2006
"...CBS Radio jolted shock jock Howard Stern and Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. on Tuesday with a $218-million lawsuit that alleged Stern misused the company's airtime in a scheme to boost the payment he received when he moved to Sirius in January...".
Rock on, Howard! His name may permently stay in the headlines. And look at all the free publicity those 'progressive thinkers' O&A are giving him...

There was one item that CBS couldn't/wouldn't match and Howard was clear when he told his agent to inform CBS/Infinity/Viacom that he was not interested in another contract - working conditions. Even if they has matched or exceeeded Sirius' offer, Sirius offered the biggest incentive in working conditions. Still, I hope Howard has his bases covered on this.
This suit not only provides fodder for Howard's listeners, media will tune in closer to the floundering CBS/Infinity/Viacom channels to hear "their side." Maybe they're taking one from Howard's playbook and keeping something going to keep interest high. |

| Let me throw this one out there. They will settle, and in the settlement Infinity will be able to broadcast the Stern show editted for a fee, Howard will get his old shit back, and to hear uncensored Howard you have to get Sirius. Infinity gets Stern back, Sirius get old Stern material, and will get subscribers who want to hear an uncensored show. |
