kkk.. Try Audacity for recording radio. Google.

Edit: Splitting off for a new thread... Do you record radio shows? If you do, which software would you recommend? It's amazing that Windows hasn't absorbed someone's program to do this... - TG

Let's be clear here... Are we talking about for personal use only? I've heard of two programs:

WOW, I downloaded the Audacity thing and recorded about 2 min of an on-line UK station as a test. It wasn't too hard to figure out. I had to go back and get one of the plug-ins (lame-3.96.1) at http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~raa110/audacity/lame.html to be able to save it as an .mp3. Audacity was here... http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows
Quote:
How do I download and install the LAME MP3 encoder?
Because of software patents, we cannot distribute MP3 encoding software ourselves. Follow these instructions to use the free LAME encoder to export MP3 files with Audacity.
Windows
    1. Go to the LAME download page.
    2. Click on any link from the list of identical "lame-3.96.1" links.
    3. When you have finished downloading LAME, unzip it and save the file lame_enc.dll anywhere on your computer.
    4. The first time you use the "Export as MP3" command, Audacity will ask you where lame_enc.dll is saved.

I left all the settings at their defaults this time. I'll probably need help to understand what I have... http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/images/audacity-windows.png

I have audacity, but I usually use it for playing old death metal backwards to see if they really have subliminal messages. Stairway to heaven and another one bites the dust both do.

Remind me what those were... Too many brain cells have died... Although all the subliminal message stuff was mostly to generate controversy so that people would buy the new records... Btw, "records" changed to CDs 30 years ago -- so why do people still call them records... Howard Stern calls them "records"...

Stern is over 50... I forgot what those subliminal messages were too... Actually, I think there's a web-sirte that has a soundclip of the "Stairway to Heaven" one. Forget where it is.

Please give me a slow tutorial on how to make audacity play something backwards...

Yep I record the show. 3 hours worth each Monday.

I make 2 or 3 copies. One copy is made using a laptop (3rd as well if we have 2 laptops which is often the case) connected to a a studio headphone outlet (headphones then connected to the laptop). I use Cool Edit pro to record the show (41000 32 bit stereo). I have also used the freebia Audacity which is adequate. The other copy is made via a portable FM radio (with digital tuner) in the second studio which is seldom used, a lead from the headphone socket goes to a MindiDisk recorder (line in although Mic in works) I have it set to LP4 which easily takes the 3 hour show. At the end of the show I save the file as an MP3 128kbps (170Mb if I recall correctly) I shut and packup the laptop whilst it is saving the show.

When I get home, I generally use the laptop copy (the Mini Disk copy requires, due to Sony's protection, me to record from the MD (lead from headphone socket to PC line in socket). I again use cool edit pro to remove the exceprts from the previous and following show (I sort of know how to spot where the music stops starts and where there is speech). I then save the entire show as an MP3 again at 128kbps. If there is no DOTA segment then this is all I do (until I have enough to fill a DVD when I copy a number of shows onto DVD's and remove them from the PC to which I have copied the shows, the laptop will only have 1 or 2 shows on it). If there is a DOTA segment then I determine the start and end and set and index marker accordingly and then use the batch option to save this. I then close the entire show file and the DOTA file. I then open the DOTA and immediately save it as another file. I then ensure that only this file is open. I then systematically go through the show removing the music. I then save this as. At this stage I have saved everything as an mp3 at 128kbps 32 bit stereo.

I then use either Nero's or Roxios sound editor to open the DOTA show without the music and then save it as mono 8kbps (under 3M). I use this file to email those who like to have the show ASAP including guests.

Please note, I'm no expert, I've just found this way to do things. I'm certainly open to exploring other methods.
