| Quote: | 4/23/2004 Gary's Schwoogie Buzzer Story
Howard and Gary were talking about the things that went on when they were younger. Gary worked in a store where they had a ''Schwoogie buzzer'' that was hit when black people entered the store to warn the employees to keep an eye on them. Gary said they didn't call it that when he worked there, and he wasn't the one in charge of the buzzer. He was in charge of keeping an eye on the people who came into the store. Gary told Howard he was never told that it was about keeping an eye on the blacks, but that was the only time the buzzer was ever hit.

This is a good segment. Starts out with a little banter news about lowering swimming standards for certain jobs (police/military), so blacks can pass the test. Then Howard tells how afraid he was to shop in his old neighborhood growing up. Then he introduces Gary's "Schwoogie Buzzer" story (Gary comes in to finish it).
Howard comes back to the swimming issue and tells the story about his mother enrolling him in a swimming program... Funny.
Howard was being unusually impatient with rambling callers too.. almost sounded like Savage...
Howard and Gary should stage a retelling of both of these on Sirius. Maybe close to Memorial Day, when people will start swimming again. Or maybe he can bring-up about blacks (and other people) swimming when there's another discussion about Robin's boat. Do Robin and Mr. X swim?
Do Robin and Mr. X notice unusual attention when they go shopping (schwoggie buzzer)? In NY? How about enroute to Fla., where they may not be as well known? |

| Wonder if we'll hear this now that he has the tapes... Would Gary tell the story any differently, now that the show is uncensored? |

It was really funny last Friday when they played the "classic" bit of Fred as that nazi guy, Gary was stumbling over himself in apology that it was even aired in the first place. _________________

Acckk, is it a "swoogiebuzzer?" Don't click...
